Content Aware ?

Managing content in past had been up to the content creator, but as enterprise companies realize how valuable their intellectual property is and more regulatory laws emerge, enterprise content management (ECM) platforms represent a viable option to deliver and store content appropriately.

Vendors such as Documentum, IBM, Microsoft, FileNet and Interwoven provide products that can help IT managers get a handle on the myriad forms of content floating around their enterprise. Anything from text-based documents to e-mail messages to marketing images falls under the umbrella of content.

"What companies need in 2004 is to have content delivered in context. When employees are in the midst of working with content-centric application, a good content management system would deliver them more resources based on what they are working on."

These content-aware systems can not only boost productivity and optimize the search process for employees, they can also ensure an enterprise company remains in compliance with new regulations. "Companies need to build content delivery networks that have some sense of what the company, groups and individuals are working on".
